Name of Task: Ghost machine, or, Who you gonna call?

People Involved: Eli Ramthun (past), Laurence Ruberl

Date Started: Aug 13, 2018

Deadline:

Description

159.28.23.26 is a ghost: detectable but not responsive to natural stimuli, haunting us.

That IP address responds to pings but is in other ways not accessible.

Thanks to Eli Ramthun for the ghost metaphor.

Status

A ping flood (ping -f) on the cluster network seemed to show it in al-salam.

Accessing the ip in a web browser from the cluster network shows it to apparently be a firmware management page for a SuperMicro machine with the default password and username working. We don't know specifics of which machine whose firmware we are accessing.
