The CS systems administrators take regular tape backups of all files that you save in your home directory. These are the guarentees we can make if you have to recover your data:

  • We rotate through four magazines every month. This means that if you lost your data within one month of requesting the recovery, we can recover it down to the day.
  • Every month we take a full backup and archive that in our tape safe. We maintain these full monthly backups for one semester. This means that if you request data recovery more than a month later than the loss but less than one semester later, we can recover your data to within one month of the loss.
  • We take the last full monthly backup of the semester and save that in our tape safe for another semster before reusing it or disposing of it.

We can make no other guarentees about the recovery of data.
