This WIKI is intended to be a conversation about students who we consider likely recipients of awards as selected by the Natural Science Division.


Thomas Clarkson Grave and Anna Hubbard Grave Graduate Scholarship in Natural Science

This award was established by Lucy Moore Grave '02 in memory of her husband's parents.

Criteria: Given to students who are academically able, and who exhibit devotion to the advancement of science, stability of character, and originality. to be used for a year of graduate study in zoology, biology, geology, or chemistry.

Award amount: TBD based on income.

Awarded by: The members of the Biology, Chemistry and Geology departments submit nominations to the Natural Science Division Committee who make the final decision.


Gertrude Pardieck Hubbard Distinguished Student Award

This award was established by Gertrude Pardieck Hubbard '18, in memory of her husband Dr. John Charles Hubbard, an outstanding physicist whose research efforts were devoted to the science of ultrasonics. He developed the sonic interferometer - the chief instrument for precision measurement of velocity of ultrasonic waves.

Criteria: Given to a student majoring in mathematics, physics, or chemistry who has done outstanding work. Excess income above $100 award shold go to the Earnest Wildman Science Library as a gift in the name of the award winner to provide books over and above the budget. These books should bear a distinctive bookplate with the student's name on it.

Award: Up to income.

Maximum # of recipients: 3

Awarded by: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry departments.


The Charles A. Frueauff Foundation Award

A generous gift from the Charles A. Frueauff Foundation.

Criteria provides awards to be given to junior mathematics or science majors with high academic achievement, with special emphasis on accomplishments in science, evidence of creativity, and financial need.

Award amount: Up to income - Financial Aid

Maximum # of recipients: 1 preferred but 2 can be given.

Awarded by: Selected by the members of the science division in consultation with Financial Aid Office.
