WHAT TO RECYCLE The following items can be recycled on campus at Earlham:

  • Plastics #1 and #2 (look at bottom of container and the number inside the triangle to determine a #1 or #2) (these go into square, blue dumpsters, labeled co-mingle. They are presently located south of Bundy Hall, south of Runyon Center, south of Lily Library, and north of the Maintenance Bldg).
  • Aluminum cans (these also go into square, blue dumpsters, labeled co-mingle, as per plastics #1 and #2).
  • Steel cans (these also go into square, blue dumpsters, labeled co-mingle, as per plastics #1 and #2).
  • Glass (these also go into square, blue dumpsters, labeled co-mingle, as per plastics #1 and #2).
  • Office paper (presently collected in square, blue dumpster, labeled "office paper"; these dumpsters are located north of Grounds Barn, west of LBC, east of Noyes Hall, west of Carpenter Hall, and south of Lily Library).
  • Newspaper (presently collected in square, blue dumpster, labeled "cardboard", north of Grounds Barn and in Runyon Center near main desk)
  • Corrugated Cardboard (collected on north side of Grounds Barn in rectangular, brown dumpster)
  • Lead/acid Batteries (collected on west side of Maintenance Bldg/small batteries collected in covered, metal barrel, on west side of Maintenance Bldg.)
  • Scrap metal (in long, open dumpster, immediately south of Maintenance Bldg.)
  • Old electronics/computers (will have computer recycling roundup for community sometime in January 2007 and maybe once later in year)
  • Old Cell phones and ink cartridges (in basement of Lily Library, by computing center)

Plans to implement a centralized recycling collection area on campus are presently being discussed. This area would be located immediately east of the Athletic and Wellness Center and south of the Maintenance Building.
