The CS department systems administrators operate the Jabberd IM server, which implements the XML-based Jabber protocol. Setup is trivial for most clients.

GAIM

Setup

  1. Go to Tools->Accounts.
  2. Go to Add.
  3. Set the protocol to Jabber, and input your CS username. Set the server to im.cs.earlham.edu.
  4. Go to more options, and make sure TLS is enabled on port 5222.

You're good to go. Click save, and then go on-line.
